Third telco player to get all available frequencies – NTC
The National Telecommunications Commission will assign all available mobile frequencies including the 3G frequency surrendered by PLDT Inc., to the third telco service provider.
NTC deputy commissioner Edgard Cabarios said the agency is preparing the list of frequencies to be given to the third player to ensure it will be able to conpete with industry giants Globe and PLDT
The available frequency bands for the new player are 700 MHz, 800 Mhz, 2100 Mhz, 2500 Mhz and 3400-3500 Mhz.
Cabarios said the new telco player would need.to pay PLDT more than P3 billion for the acquisition of the 3G frequency.
The applicant with the highest committed investment for the first five years shall be selected as the third player. Candidates must have at least P250 billion to P350 billion over five years and must have a valid Congressional telecommunications franchise.
Cabarios said the government expects to select the third player by March.
