NTC overshoots 2017 collection target
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) exceeded its 2017 collection goal by 10.6 percent.
In a statement, the NTC said it collected P4.8 billion last year, higher than its P4.34 billion target, which was set by the Development Budget Coordination Committee.
Last year’s collection, however, was slightly lower than the P4.87 billion raised in 2016.
This marked the second straight year NTC overshot its collection goal under the Duterte government. This was attributed NTC’s concerted efforts to strictly enforce stakeholders’ compliance in remitting spectrum users’ fees (SUF), supervision and regulation fees (SRF) and penalties.
Under NTC’s supervision are cable and commercial television operators, broadcast radio stations, telecommunications companies and 2-way radio operators.
“The NTC management will continue rallying the agency to achieve the same results for 2018,” NTC commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba said.
