The international aid agency conferred a prestigious recognition for this man’s efforts to turn project proposals into reality.
National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary for Investment Programming Rolando Tungpalan was the only Filipino among 29 recipients of an award given by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) this year.
The international agency recognized Tungpalan “for his contributions in the delivery of countless JICA-assisted projects in the Philippines,” the NEDA said in a statement.
“Undersecretary Tungpalan has been instrumental in steering the partnership between the Philippine and Japanese governments to where it is today,” Susumu Ito, JICA Chief Representative in the Philippines said during the awards ceremony held on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
Tungpalan has been working for the government since 1976. He heads NEDA’s Investment Coordination Committee-Technical Board which evaluates big-ticket project proposals.
JICA has been among the biggest development partners of the Philippines, extending financial and technical aid for infrastructure projects.
