NTC sees no legal barriers to entry of 3rd telco provider
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is making sure there will be no legal impediments to the entry of a third player in the highly-competitive telco sector.
NTC deputy commissioner Edgardo Cabarios said they are studying all possible legal issues that may be brought up with the selection or entry of the third telco provider.
” Anybody can go to court but we will make sure that they can’t get an injunction,” Cabarios said.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) last week released its guidelines on the selection of the third telco player.
Under guidelines, the applicant with the highest committed investment for the first five years shall be selected. It must have the capacity to invest at least P350 billion.
The applicant must also have a valid Congressional telecommunications franchise, not a subsidiary or affiliate of Globe and PLDT Group.
