PH tries out electronic shipping clearance with Indonesia
The pilot runs have turned out to be successful.
The Department of Finance (DOF) said initial tests for a regional electronic platform for shipment clearances have kicked off, with the Philippines succeeding with the first round of tests with Indonesia.
This is in keeping with the country’s commitment to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Single Window, which seeks to promote interconnections among member-states and improve ease of doing business within the region.
DOF Undersecretary Gil Beltran said the initial tests had been “successful,” although further developments and adjustments will still be tried out over the next few weeks until May 2018.
Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand are already using the ASEAN Single Window to exchange information on customs clearances. Apart from the Philippines, Cambodia and Brunei have signed up for initial connection tests.
