Andanar throws former boss MVP under the bus: Ibinigay ng libre, ibebenta ng bilyon-bilyon ang frequency
Former TV5 news anchor Martin Andanar just threw his former boss, bilyonaryo Manny V. Pangilinan, under the bus with his scathing attack on the insatiable greed of telecommunication companies for charging billions for for frequencies they got for free from the government.
In a TV interview, Andanar said: “Ang problema kasi ay iyong napagbibigyan ng franchise, iyon ang nagbebenta.
Pangilinan is chairman of Salim-backed PLDT-Smart group which is one half of the telecom duopoly which Duterte wanted smashed through the entry of a third player to give unhappy Filipinos better, cheaper and more reliable internet and mobile communication services.
Pangilinan also owns the loss-making TV5 where Andanar used to work before he was tapped to head the Presidential Communications Operations Office.
Duterte has blamed Pangilinan for putting up roadblocks for the entry of a third telco player in the country by refusing to hand over the 3G frequencies held by PLDT-SMart’s Connectivity Unlimited Resources Enterprise (CURE). Pangilinan had previously demanded P3 billion in compensation for the CURE frequencies.
But less than 24 hours after Duterte threatened Pangilinan not to “fuck with the government”, Pangilinan surrendered the frequencies at no cost to the government.
