Axe falls on SSS execs Amado Valdez and Pompee La Viña
President Duterte has terminated the services of Social Security System chairman Amado Valdez and commissioner Jose “Pompee” La Viña, for still unknown reasons.
The non-renewal of the two officials’ terms is emerging to be part of an unravelling purge that will see more officials being kicked out of government agencies.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Valdez and La Viña have been serving in a holdover capacity as their terms had expired last June 30.
Roque did not give any reason for the termination of services of the two officials, but said it was a “presidential prerogative”.
Prior to his appointment in October 2016, Valdez was a former dean of the University of the East College of Law.
La Vina, on the other hand, was the social media director of Duterte’s presidential campaign.
The SSS has been embroiled in a stock trading controversy that allegedly involved some of its officials of in self-dealing with the state pension fund’s investments.
