Dominguez pledges support for Bangsamoro law
Fiscal autonomy should allow the region to be self-sufficient.
Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III voiced support for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law that would create an autonomous region for Muslim Mindanao.
He even went as far as agreeing to allow the region to enjoy its own share of taxes and its own budget allocation and grants.
“Fiscal autonomy is earned. It should be attained with the end goal of economic self-sufficiency and sustainable development,” Dominguez said during the Senate hearing on the proposed law on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
The condition, however, is that the Bangsamoro region should eventually be able to support its own operations and remain transparent through it all.
““The public has to see that fiscal discipline is being practiced in all areas, specifically now in this particular area,” Dominguez added.
