Battle of the giants: India wants to give China competition as PH’s 3rd telco player
India is also interested to become the third player in the Philippine telecommunications industry, President Rodrigo Duterte said.
In a speech before Indian businessmen in Malacanang Tuesday (February 20), Duterte said an Indian company applied to become the third telco player.
“There’s a new application from an Indian company. India is also interested to enter into the telecom industry. And we are considering…,” he said.
“I invited them during my talks with the businessmen of India during my official visit,” he added.
Duterte has invited China Telecoms to invest in the country to break the duopoly of PLDT-Smart and Globe Telecoms.
However, China Telecoms has to find a local player to partner with to meet the Constitution’s limits on foreign ownership.
