Dunkin’ Donuts fans rage as gov’t files P1B tax case
The billion-peso case enraged netizens, who feared that their favorite treats will be in peril.
Netizens were abuzz on Friday, Feb. 23 after the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) slapped a P1.1-billion tax evasion case against Golden Donuts, Inc., the company owned by the Prieto clan which operates the local franchise of Dunkin’ Donuts.
The complaint stems from the company’s “deliberate failure” to report accurate sales information in its income tax returns and quarterly value added tax returns, with the BIR claiming that the company under-declared its sales by 39 percent.
Fans of the donut brand tweeted out of panic.
Oh no but I like Dunkin Donuts better thatln Mister Donuts. Tuyo yung donuts sa Mister D. tapos parang puro bread. Sa Dunkin malasa and masarap plus their coffee ay winner https://t.co/1zpoXFreq9

Others were quick to point out that this could be part of a government strategy to wipe out the Prieto clan, following critique of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Mile Long property in Makati.
Golden Donuts is owned by the Prietos, who also owned majority shares of broadsheet Philippine Daily Inquirer before they sold them to business tycoon Ramon Ang, Duterte’s campaign donor.
After the Mile Long properties, now Dunkin Donuts. 😤 https://t.co/3MWwiMMC8k
