Espenilla bares bout vs tongue cancer
The central bank chief said he is now cancer-free after the diagnosis in November 2017.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Nestor Espenilla, Jr. has revealed that he had been diagnosed with tongue cancer late last year, but the early detection and a surgery allowed him to bounce back as cancer-free.
In an Inquirer report, Espenilla said his cancer was at an early stage and “localized,” enough for interventions to address.
“I also had to go through radiation therapy as advised by doctors,” Espenilla said. “That’s completed now. However, radiation therapy has unavoidable side effects.”
Currently, the BSP chief is on a pilgrimage at the Holy Land.
Espenilla took office as BSP governor in July 2017.
