Sy, Tieng push Sangley airport in Cavite
A group led by Solar Group’s Wilson Tieng and the family of bilyonaryo Henry Sy, submitted a new unsolicited proposal to the government to develop an international airport in Sangley, Cavite City.
The proposed $12 billion project involves the rehabilitation of the Danilo Atienza airport in Sangley, Cavite, which is being groomed to be a regional airport hub that can handle private jets and smaller low-cost carriers and accommodate 120 million passengers per year and
Called Sangley Airport Infrastructure Group, the consortium proposed a concession period of 50 years.
The project will start with the reclamation of about 2,500 hectares of land north of the Sangley peninsula, which will be used for the development of airport infrastructure and commercial establishments including service buildings, office towers, hotels, and conference centers.
It is seen to free up NAIA terminals and help ease Metro Manila traffic since passengers from the south utilizing the new airport need not enter Metro Manila anymore.
