Move out or pay up, GSIS tells Sofitel owner

The Government Service Insurance System reiterated its directive to the Philippine Plaza Holdings Inc., owner of Sofitel Manila, to move out of the place where the hotel stands, saying the company owes them about P101 million in unpaid rent.

In a briefing, GSIS president and general manager Clint Aranas asserted its claim that Philippine Plaza was remiss in the payment of rent for nearly a hectare lot owned by the state pension fund.

Aranas said Philippine Plaza has not paid for 23 years or from 1993 to 2016.. A notice to vacate has already been issued by the state pension fund.

Philippine Plaza spokesperson Diane Christie Rosacia, however, denied all the accusations hurled by GSIS, insisting that the company has been complying with all its obligations, including the payment of rent.
