Bilyonaryo Enrique K. Razon, who owns global port operator International Container Terminal Services Inc., has offered to develop a $308 million Manila cruise facility to take advantage of the the growing number of cruise travellers and increasing international port calls.

The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has already forwarded to President Duterte the proposal of Razon’s Sureste Properties Inc. to build the Solaire Cruise Center.

According to Tieza, Duterte welcomed the proposal as long as Sureste complies with all the requirements.

The proposal includes marine and terminal facilities, homeport and port-of- call operations, an expanded harbour offering dining, shopping, entertainment and maritime recreation, and walkable esplanades and plazas to give passengers a one-of-a-kind experience.

Targeted for completion in two to 10 years, the project shall apply for designation as a tourism enterprise zone to allow it to avail of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives.

According to the Department of Tourism, international cruise calls to the Philippines have been growing at an average rate of 27.8 percent over the past years, with 56 calls in 2014, 70 calls in 2015, and 72 calls in 2016.
