MPIC-Ayala group to start construction of LRT 1 Cavite extension in October
Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), a joint venture between Ayala Corp. and Metro Pacific Investments Corp., expects to start construction of the P35 billion LRT Line 1 Cavite extension project by October.
The project was hampered by right-of-way issues. It is targeted to be operational by the second quarter of 2021.
LRMC president Juan F. Alfonso said the project would cut travel time from Baclaran to Bacoor to one and a half hours a day, during rush hour.
“From Baclaran to Sucat, it will be only 15 minutes; Baclaran to Zapote, 20 minutes,” he added.
The 11.7-kilometer Cavite extension will connect into the existing system immediately south of the Baclaran station and will run in a generally southerly direction to Niyog, Cavite.
