Solon threatens ERC with lawsuit over Meralco power deals
A lot is at stake on this decision.
Officials of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) could be making one of the hardest decisions in their careers over seven power supply agreements (PSAs) of Manny Pangilinan’s Manila Electric Company.
Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate said in a statement that he will sue ERC Chair Agnes Devanadera and commissioners of the regulatory agency should they greenlight Meralco’s PSAs awarded to its subsidiaries.
Zarate said the multi-trillion peso agreements are “sweetheart deals” designed to bolster the monopoly and maximize profits.
“Millions of Filipinos under Meralco’s franchise area will suffer from exorbitant rates if ERC under Devanadera approves these exorbitant PSAs. But we will hold her, as well as other ERC officials and employees, accountable if they accommodate these expensive PSAs,” Zarate said.
