Bigger is better: SMC to spend a whopping P742B to build new food, beverage facilities
San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is in the midst of its biggest growth push ever with about P742 billion earmarked through 2020 for the constructon of 17 new food manufacturing facilities and up to six new breweries.
“Easily this is the largest capacity expansion we’ve undertaken in our company’s history,” San Miguel president and COO Ramon S. Ang told the conglomerate’s stockholders Thursday.
The unprecedented expansion involves the development of new facilities for poultry and processed meat which includes the popular Spam luncheon meat for both the domestic and regional markets.
The Spam manufacturing plant will have a capacity of 500 tons per day or 160,000 tons per year.
Plans also include the construction of six feed mills with a capacity of one million tons each per year. These will rise in Mariveles, Bataan; Mabini, Batangas; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Cagayan de Oro; Mandaue, Cebu; and Liganes, Iloilo.
Flour milling ans ready-to-eat food pkants will likewise be developed.
Beer arn San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) will build five or six new breweries – at a cost of $250 million each – in La Union, Pangasinan, Sta. Rosa in Laguna, Quezon, Bicol, Cagayan de Oro, and Zamboanga.
The massive expansion is aimed at meeting the increasing demand for its food and drink products.
