Calls and text now cheaper as gov’t cuts interconnection charges
The National Telecommunications Commission has more than halved the interconnection charges for voice calls and text.
NTC reduced the interconnection rates for mobile voice calls from P2.50 to P0.50 per minute. Short messaging services was also lowered from P0.15 to P0.05 per text.
Based on the annual reports submitted by telcos to the NTC using cost allocation based on revenue contribution, the average cost of interconnection in the last three years for mobile voice services and SMS is P0.486 per minute and P0.44 per message, respectively.
In India, NTC said the interconnection rates for text and voice are P0.0154 and P0.067 per minute, respectively.In Australia, the SMS interconnection charge is P0.012 and P0.067 for voice services.
