More foreign tourists came to PH despite Boracay closure
They kept coming even minus one option.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) said more foreign travelers still visited the country this year despite the shutdown of the world-famous Boracay Island starting April.
In a statement, DOT said 3.7 million foreigners visited the Philippines from January to June 2018, 10 percent higher than the 3.4 million tourists a year ago.
“The DOT’s continuous marketing promotions, aggressive actions to create new air routes and develop new tourism products, travel facilitation, and confidence in tourism investments drummed up the industry and resulted to this stellar performance,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.
Puyat added that the first-half tally makes the 7.4 million tourist target for 2018 achievable.
