Duterte tells wheeler-dealer Ongpin: Don’t mess with me, I don’t give a shit who you are

President Rodrigo Duterte has warned bilyonaryo Bobby Ongpin not to mess with him while he is in power in Malacanang.

“He (Ongpin) has been there since the time of Marcos. He’s a player. Kaya sabi ko sa kanya, do it not now, not now. Huwag sa akin. I don’t give a shit who you are. Masampal kita in public,” said Duterte in a speech in Bukidnon.

Ongpin was the first oligarch cursed by Duterte in his first few weeks in office. Duterte has blamed him for “monopolizing” government franchises, specifically online gaming, and forced him to sell out his holdings.

Duterte is claiming that Ongpin also cornered all the coveted frequencies he claimed Ongpin got for free from government and sold for a ransom to telecom firms.

“Itong digital space, ‘yung mga choices nandiyan sa kanila. I think it was Ongpin who got it all tapos pinagbili niya sa mga… Eh mga gago naman itong putang ina, binili rin lahat. So they control now the choices, lines sa cyberspace,” said Duterte who forced bilyonaryo Mannn V. Pangilinan to give up the frequencies for use by the prospective third telco player without pushing through with his demand for P3 billion compensation.

“Iyong si Ongpin just got out ‘yung sa monopolies and everything. There’s a law against that,” Duterte said.

“He has been there for all time. Always he gets, he lives off the fat of the land. Bagong na-dismiss lang ‘yung kaso,” said Duterte referring to the Court of Appeals dismissal of the Philex insider trading case against Ongpin.
