Government saves P45M from discounted airfare

Government employees also got into airport lounges thanks to deals with airlines.

The government has saved at least P45.7 million in airfare expenses for officials and employees deployed to other destinations while on the job, according to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

This is due to the Government Fares Agreement signed by the state with the Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Asia Philippines to avail of discounted plane tickets worth at 8-9 percent from regular rates.

“This amount does not include unquantified savings from additional benefits which enrolled agencies enjoy under the program such as free first rebooking fee, waived processing fee for domestic and international tickets and additional weight allowances. Agencies also enjoy airport lounge privileges under the program,” the DBM said.

Total fares paid reached P480.1 million as of end-July, availed of by 160 state agencies and offices.
