NPC gives 5 days for ABS-CBN to report details of data breach

This regulator is being strict as ever.

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) has given a rigid deadline for ABS-CBN to complete its report on the reported hacking of its online store on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

It was reported that Russian hacker tapped into the media group’s online store and stole client data via a payment skimmer. ABS-CBN gave a breach notification to the NPC on the same day.

“We expect ABS-CBN’s DPO (Data Protection Officer) to act in accordance with breach management standards set forth by the Commission, and fully set in motion its breach response protocols, including the safeguarding of their systems and the prevention of possible harms to affected data subject,” the NPC said in a statement.

The agency also expects a full report “within five days” following the discovery of the breach, which a Dutch security expert said may have been going on for a month now.
