Customs busts another shipment of smuggled onions
This importer should have known better now.
The Bureau of Customs busted another illegal shipment of P16 million worth of red onions sourced from China, which comes weeks after a similar cargo was seized by authorities.
Customs officials busted the new shipment which came in via the Manila International Container Port under the name of ASD Total Package Enterprises Inc.
The goods arrived Aug. 14 but were declared as 20,000 cartons of fresh apples.
“Like the previous modus, the Commissioner said ASD are misdeclaring onions to evade paying correct duties and taxes,” the bureau said in a statement.
This comes at a time of surging vegetable prices in the local market.
ASD will again face criminal raps.
