Sex scandal rocks ABS-CBN as reporter Gretchen Fullido files raps vs. news execs
Showbiz reporter and anchor Gretchen Fullido has blown off the lid about the sexual harassment allegedly happening within ABS-CBN by filing criminal charges against newsroom executives whom she claims made her life hell for three years.
Fullido’s abogado, Marvin Aceron, announced on Friday that the Kapamilya news personality filed sexual harassment charges against former newsroom executive Cheryl Favila and news segment producer Maricar Asprec before the Quezon City Prosecutors’ Office.
The charges against the two ABS-CBN news executives stemmed from the text messages they allegedly sent to Fullido, which were “loaded with sexual innuendos” and “amounted to requests for sexual favors.”
When Fullido rejected the two executives’ advances, Aceron said they retaliated and made it difficult for the reporter and anchor to work for TV Patrol, ABS-CBN’s flagship primetime newscast.
“It was a cycle that was going on for almost three years,” he said.
Fullido brought the matter up to the ABS-CBN management for investigation. On July 16, the sexual harassment case against Favila was dismissed but she was found liable for gross misconduct, leading to her recent dismissal from the company.
The Kapamilya news personality also filed libel cases against ABS-CBN news executives Ces Oreña Drilon and Venancio Borromeo, as well as reporter Marie Lozano.
Fullido claimed that the three put her in a bad light by saying that she filed the sexual harassment complaint against Favila and Asprec with the ABS-CBN management to “leverage her employment status.”
She added that Drilon resorted to “victim shaming” by claiming that she deserves to be harassed since she was willing to wear a bikini for TV Patrol.
In a statement, the TV network said it respected the right of Fullido to bring her sexual harassment complaint to the courts.
“Now that she has filed charges with the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, we expect all parties to allow the legal process to take its course,” it said.
“ABS-CBN takes sexual harassment seriously and does not condone such acts in the workplace or by its employees. When Ms. Fullido filed an administrative case against a supervising producer and a segment producer for alleged sexual harassment in November 2017, the company took prompt action on the administrative complaint and decided based on the evidence presented,” it added.
