Hennan Group surprised to hear of ‘fake ECC’
The chain of upscale resorts was also caught off guard by the regulator’s announcement.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) identified the Henann Group as the resort operator that allegedly faked its environmental compliance certificate (ECC).
Securing an ECC is a necessary prerequisite for operating to ensure that the business conforms to environmental laws, regulations and standards.
Bilyonaryo obtained a copy of the fake ECC allegedly submitted by the Henann Garden Resort in Boracay.
The ECC, dated Oct.8, purportedly bore the signature of DENR Region 6 director Sophie Manuel.
Given the serious infraction, the DENR is preparing to file criminal charges against the Henann Group of Resorts.
Owned by the family of Filipino-Chinese businessman Henry Chusuey, the Hennan Group operates six resorts in Boracay and Bohol.
The group denied submitting a fake ECC, saying it has launched an investigation into the case.
“Our president, Ms. Helen Lim, hasn’t authorized anybody to submit unofficial or fake documents and that is why we are having this investigation,” the resort’s manager said.
