Rio, Cordoba making way for wider Globe frequency?
The pressure is on for NOW Telecom to drop its bid for a wider band.
Acting Secretary Eliseo Rio, Jr. of the Department of Information and Communications Technology as well as National Telecommunications Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba are reportedly muscling their way to get NOW Telecom to drop their claim over 3G frequencies for the past decade.
A Bilyonaryo source said the two executives appear to be making the stars line up for Globe Telecom Inc. to take the contested 2100 Megahertz (MHz) frequencies.
Back in 2006, Bayantel, NOW Telecoms and Multimedia Telephony Inc have contested ownership of these frequencies.
Globe eventually bought Bayantel and Multimedia Telephony Inc years later. If NOW succumbs to the pressure, withdrawing from the Supreme Court case will consolidate 3G frequencies with Globe Telecom and make it at par with Smart.
It’s timely ahead of the entry of the third telco player.
