Wala kayo sa telco ko! Chavit Singson claims he can bring prices of mobile services down by 95 percent

Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson boasts he can offer mobile services at five percent the cost charged by Globe Telecommunications and Smart Communications if his joint venture becomes the third telco player in the country.

Singson said the joint venture of LCS Group of Companies with TierOne can offer cheap mobile services because of the billion-dollar deal it recently signed to acquire a “substantial” equity stake in an international broadband satellite operator.

“Kung P100 ang [presyo ng] kalaban, P5 lang kami,” he said in a recent interview.

Of the nine companies currently vying to become the third telco player, Singson noted that only his consortium has a tie-up with a satellite operator.

He also claimed that they are the only company that can offer mobile services throughout the country.

“May cable and satellite kami. Kami lang ang magkakaroon ng full connectivity sa 7,100 islands [ng Pilipinas]. Ang iba wala,” Singson said.

“Kami ang pinaka qualified at kami lang ang may proposal na buong Pilipinas. walang zezerohin na remote island,” he added.

The Ilocano politiko said that once the satellite is launched, his company can offer Internet speeds of up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) to subscribers.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology will select and announce the name of the third telco player on November 7.
