AMA Telecoms to vie for third telco slot
AMA Telecommunications Corp. has emerged as another potential bidder for the country’s third telco slot, the National Telecommunications Commission announced Wednesday.
The company bought bid documents from the NTC for an opportunity to become the country’s third telco player.
In August 2016, AMA Telecom secured a 25-year franchise to construct, install, establish, operate and maintain telecommunications systems in the Philippines.
This brings to 10 the number of companies vying for the third telco slot.
The others that bought bid documents were Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corp, Now Telecom of businessman Mel Velarde, Dennis Uy’s Udenna Corp., the joint venture of businessman Chavit Singson’s LSC Group of Companies and TierOne Communications, Norway’s Telenor Group, China Telecom and two unidentified companies.
Submission and opening of bid documents was set on Nov. 7.
