Double cross! Chavit to sue Mindanao telco for dumping Tier One, switching to Dennis Uy

The group headed by Ilocos politician Luis “Chavit” Singson plans to sue local telco franchise holder Mindanao Islamic Telephone Co. (Mislatel) for breach of contract.

Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy, one of President Duterte’s top campaign contributors, partnered with China Telecoms and Mislatel to bid for the right to challenge the dupololy between PLDT and Globe Telecoms.

Mislatel is the lone bidder qualified to participate in the bidding for the third telco slot after — Singson’s Sears/TierOne and Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corp. were disqualified.

Sears claims Mislatel has an exclusive contract with Digiphil Technology Inc., a subsidiary of TierOne Communications International.

Mislatel holds a Congressional franchise to operate telecom services.

“We will file a case within the next few days to prevent Mislatel from allowing somebody else to use their franchise without prior consent from DigiPhil,” said Raoul Creencia, managing partner of Sears.

“DigiPhilhas the right of first refusal. The prohibition actually is not absolute, for as long as Mislatel gets consent from DigiPhil,” he added.
