To PLDT, Dennis Uy/China Telecom is not a threat yet
The entry of a new group led by Davao’s Dennis Uy and China Telecom into the Philippine telco sector isn’t worrying industry giant PLDT Inc. Not yet, anyway.
PLDT chairman and president Manuel V. Pangilinan shrugged off the new major player’s potential to immediately dent the telco giant’s business.
Pangilinan said the entry of a a third player in the telco industry would have a minimal impact on PLDT’s operations in the first year.
“We actually don’t know yet how the revenues picture will develop with the entry of the third telco. I would like to think that the impact would not be significant in the first year” he said when quizzed by reporters.
“It depends on how fast the third telco player can build its infrastructure and roll out its services,” he added.
In an interview with DZMM, Department of Information and Communications Technology OIC Eliseo Rio said the Uy-led consortium committed minimum speed of 27 mbps in its first year of operation.
