Dominguez wants to sue LGUs that gave permit to illegal cigarette maker

Heads must roll.

Heads must roll.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III wants a broader crackdown against illegal cigarette factories by involving the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The Cabinet official wants DILG to sue local officials and employees who issued a barangay permit to an illicit factory of cigarettes in Bugallon, Pangasinan.

True enough, the permit they got was to operate a piggery.

“The officials/employees who were instrumental in the issuance of the permit and all other accountable persons who failed to exercise the degree of diligence required of them should be investigated and subsequently subjected to appropriate charge/s,” Dominguez said in a strongly-worded letter to DILG Secretary Eduardo Año.

A raid into the factory yielded 30 workers including five Chinese nationals working on the fake cigarettes.
