PH Customs assures Canada trash will be sent back by May 15

The Bureau of Customs has blamed Canada for causing the delays.

The Bureau of Customs has blamed Canada for causing the delays.

According to Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, they have already done their part to expedite the return of 69 container vans of trash to Canada after these were shipped to the Subic port as early as 2013.

“The Philippines is prepared to return 69 container vans of garbage to Canada by May 15 but bureaucratic red tape in the Canadian government has slowed down the process of reexporting the trash back to their country,” the Department of Finance said in a statement.

The government of Canada said it needs too secure import permits and bid out the fumigation services for the containers, which would take “a couple of weeks.”
