The Energy Regulatory Commission has warned of repercussions if the Supreme Court ruling requiring all power deals executed from 2015 to go through competitive bidding is implemented.
“It will really affect the supply scenario considering the problems we have now during the summer season. You can just imagine if suppliers are asked to stop supplying due to the SC decision,” said ERC Commissioner Catherine Maceda as quoted by The Philippine Star.
The SC ruling was in response to a petition seeking to stop the supposed “sweetheart deals” entered into by power utility giant Manila Electric Co. with its subsidiaries.
Pangilinan earlier said the lack of an alternative source of new abundant energy resources could create a supply crunch.
