We’ve been warned.
United States Ambassador Sung Kim said the US government has warned its allies including the Philippines about the perils of using a Huawei telco equipment.
The US government crackdown has escalated to a point where it banned all American technology firms from doing business with Huawei, whose products could be used for espionage by Chinese authorities.
“We believe it’s important as a friend, as a partner, as an ally to share our concerns to the Philippines and other partners in the region and beyond,” Amb. Kim said in a forum.
“But in the end, it’s up to the individual countries to make decisions on which companies they partner with, which technologies they choose to use. Ultimately, it’s up to the individual country to make decisions based on the full range of factors in play,” he added.
The Philippine National Police was earlier considering tapping Huawei for the “Safe Philippines” project, which requires the installation of CCTV cameras for monitoring.
