Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose C. Laurel revealed plans to open a consular office in Nagoya, Japan to accommodate the entry of more Filipinos.

Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose C. Laurel revealed plans to open a consular office in Nagoya, Japan to accommodate the entry of more Filipinos.

Laurel expects more Filipinos to come to Nagoya, a manufacturing center, to work.

“Why in Nagoya? Because that is a manufacturing center. It is not only Toyota. The entire gamut of manufacturing in Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Motors, Noritake, and the other industries are located there. So everybody is going there,” Laurel said.

With a shrinking labor force and a rapidly aging population, Japan needs to hire foreign workers to fill shortages in sectoes such as construction, shipbuilding, hotels, agriculture and nursing.
