Tomb Raider or Wonder Woman? Pinoys say pretty US envoy will make Duterte behave

Netizens were quick to point out how Washington played its cards right as they replaced Ambassador Sung Kim from his assignment in Manila. Taking his place is diplomat Mina Chang, who is also of Asian descent but is a cross between “Lara Croft” and “Wonder Woman” in American cinema.

Chang is currently assigned to the State Department’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, but previously worked as chief executive officer of the non-government organization Linking the World.

“This is the new US Ambassador to the Philippines. Can’t wait for the president to say something wildly inappropriate. Welcome, Ms. Chang,” he said on Facebook.

Even columnist Wilson Lee Flores weighed in to commend the choice.

“Smart move by America, because President Duterte seems angry at Western, Caucasian colonial attitude in the past & seems to respect east Asians, he is also known to admire pretty women,” he said.
