Duterte worries about kidnapping of BIR execs but tells FFCCCI members: Duda ko kayo nagpapabiktima!
President Rodrigo Duterte has confirmed his order for the Philippine
National Police to look into kidnappings of rich executives of the
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
“Yang kidnapping hinahabol talaga namin ‘yan at maasahan ninyo. At
halos wala naman — wala naman masyado ngayon. Except ang kini-kidnap
ngayon at marami ‘to, ma’am, ‘yung mga director ng BIR. Sikreto lang
‘yan,” said Duterte in a speech before members of the Federation of
Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
On July 9, Philippine National Police (PNP) Gen. Oscar Albayalde said
the President has ordered him to look into at least 15 kidnapping
cases involving wealthy BIR officials since 2013.
Albayalde said the police has a tough time solving these cases not
only because complainants were afraid to cooperate, but because these
reports turned out to be bogus.
Duterte joked that BIR executives were probably not the targets but
the wealthy members of FFCCCI.
“Duda ko nga kayo eh. Duda ko kayo sa federation. Kayo ‘yung maraming
biktima, eh nagpapabiktima kayo eh. Look, I know that you are
Chinese… Chinese ‘yung lolo ko,” said Duterte.
