Smart Communications has inked an agreement with Malaysia’s edotco Group Sdn. Bhd. and businessman Michael Cosiquien’s ISOC Infrastructure Inc. to speed up the construction of cell towers across the country.
It has initially identified 71 sites for construction of cell towers under its rolloit plan.
“Our agreement with the edotco-ISOC Group is a welcome development that will enable us to roll out our LTE, and, soon, our 5G base stations in a quicker and more cost-effective manner,” said Manuel V. Paniglinan, chairman and CEO of PLDT and Smart.
The partnership is in line with efforts to support rhe government’s common tower policy.
Smart is currently in discussions with other common tower companies.
Suresh Sidhu, chief executive of edotco Group said: “Building sharable infrastructure helps address the country’s digital gap, and creates the right environment for the nation’s digital transformation.”
For his part, Cosiquien said the agreement opens a breadth of many possibilities, particularly with the Philippines gearing up for 5G and other advanced cellular network technologies.
The edotco Group is the leading regional integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company in Asia. It specializes in end-to-end solutions in the tower services sector including co-locations, build-to-suit, energy, transmission and operations and maintenance.
