To the rescue! DBM releases P82M to combat swine fever
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) came to the rescue of piggeries as it turned over P82.5 million to the Department of Agriculture to fund prevention measures.
“This amount covers the funding requirements for the African Swine Fever preventive measures,” the DBM said
More than a third of the amount will be used to detect meat and meat products brought in through international airports.
The intervention program, named BABES, bans pork imports, prevents swill feeding, blocks entry of hand-carried meat, educating the people, and submitting lab samples.
Around P27.7 million will go to testing of samples of meat and meat products, P17.6 million on surveillance and monitoring, and P5.4 million to run an awareness campaign.
