Days after cursing a lady journalist, netizens dug up an infamous front page photo of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin shooting the dirty finger at striking workers of San Miguel Corp. as proof of his bad manners.

But instead of being embarrassed, Locsin beamed proudly about making the rude gesture he made in April 1987 after workers of SMC, then under the control of Andres Soriano III, booed him for the government’s plan to take over management of the sequestered food and beer giant (the Cory Aquino speechwriter was then a board director representing of the Presidential Commission of Good Government).

“Thanks, glad you remember. Locsin had opposed Soriano’s plan to buy, through SMC’s Hong Kong subsidiary Neptunia Corp. Ltd., Danding Cojuangco’s 33 million shares in SMC using the company’s funds.
