What a difference kikiam breakfasts, conjugal toilets, and warehouse-type press rooms make.
Just a few days ago, President Rodrigo Duterte was singing hosannas to Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano as one of the “brightest stars” in politics.
On November 26, Duterte has lost his cool over the unfolding monumental flop of a Southeast Asian Games due to the gross mismanagement of Cayetano and his brainchild, Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC).
In an interview at the sidelines of the ASEAN-South Korea summit in Busan, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said: “Yung palpak na ‘yun, hindi sana nangyari, kayang-kaya gawa ng paraan. Kaya nagagalit si Presidente.”
Panelo said Duterte blew his top when he heard about the food served by PHISGOC-Cayetano, particulary the kikiam, egg and rice set. “Hindo ko malaman (bakit sinerve ang kikiam). Kinakain lang ‘yun kung medyo wala ka nang kinakain,” Panelo said.
Panelo confirmed the President’s annoyance a day after Senator Bong Go gave a privilege speech giving PHISGOC-Cayetano an ultimatum to shape up and iron out the blunders before the November 30 SEA Games opening or he and his group would face the President’s wrath.
Go said the President could not understand how could the missteps that have made the Philippines the laughing stock in the region happened when PHISGOC-Cayetano had been given all the funds (P17 billion) and full control of the games.
