Shortly after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) announcement of the entry of two new players in the motorcycle taxi business, the hashtag #BoycottJoyride quickly became trending on Twitter .

Netizens claimed that JoyRide was a fake competitor and it was allegedly owned by President Duterte’s right-hand man, Senator Bong Go.

“Joyride is owned by one of the most problematic person in the Senate and thousands of angkas bikers will lose their job just because of this new cOmPeTiTor. doon pa rin tayo sa kapakanan natin ang iniisip at hindi sariling interes,” user @freyakeena said.

While it’s unconfirmed, people were quick to call for a boycott of JoyRide.

Others said it was unfair play, as Angkas suddenly had to suffer for the sake of welcoming new players.

“If they would really want to enter the market, why don’t keep up with the existing benchmark? Why strip people off their livelihoods?,” another said, referring to Angkas’ claim that 17,000 riders will lose their jobs as per LTFRB’s directive.

“Imagine you opened a Mcdo sa tabi ng existing Jollibee then you tell Jollibee na 100 pcs. Chicken Joy lang pwede nilang ibenta para per day para you can sell your McChicken. B*tch! That’s not competition!,” user @RaphaFourth added.
