Construction firms factor in gov’t corruption in project cost
The use of power by government officials for illegitimate private gains erodes people’s trust in state-run institutions.
However, there are some who bribe government officials to bypass standard processes and get their projects started.
During the 4th Philippine Construction Industry Congress last week, economist and REID Foundation VP Ronilo Balbieran said contractors shell out 15 to 35 percent of their project cost for grease money and other demands just to get construction rolling.
He nicely called it as “other costs of doing business.”
