The SM Group has made a swift response to deny circulating text messages that the mall complex by the bay was in danger of falling down.
A chain message claiming that the SM Mall of Asia was on the brink of collapsing cited as source one of the engineers of the shopping complex built on reclaimed land.
The text claimed that the mall’s foundation at sea has crumbled, saying the entire mall would sink.

“The foundation of the SM Mall of Asia Complex is built on concrete piles that reach the bedrock and will withstand extreme situations. The statement where water will make the building collapse is patently false,” the mall management said in a statement.
“We also have rigorous annual checks to ensure the safety of the buildings so at no time will the safety of our customers, tenants and employees be compromised.”
