As far as the Department of Public Works and Highways is concerned, there is nothing wrong in the contracts entered into by its predecessors, its chief said.
“Of course we are always looking but so far wala pa kami nakikitang onerous,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said.
“ But definitely if we find something onerous, we will investigate. Pero at this point wala pa naman kaming nakikitang onerous provisions,” he added.
It would be recalled that President Duterte ordered a review of all government contracts with private companies to ensure they are fair to the Filipino people.
If the government uncovers onerous provisions in the contracts, they could either be terminated or re-negotiated.
Durterte’s continued tirades against the country’s major concessionaires Manila Water Co. and Maynilad as well as other corporate giants are scaring of foreign investors, especially those that intend to set up shop here.
