It took more than three years for a member of the Lopez family to show respect and apologize to President Rodrigo Duterte for the mistakes of ABS-CBN broadcasting Corp.
But Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo believes ABS-CBN, which is just five weeks away from losing its franchise, has “hope” with the new generation of Lopezes, ABS-CBN president Carlo Katigbak, nephew of chair emeritus Gabby Lopez.
“Mayroong reason (why Duterte is mad at ABS-CBN) and I’m addressing this to the owners of ABS-CBN. Ang problema ho kasi sa inyo, hindi iyong mga bagong executives ngayon, nakakaawa nga, dahil ang gagaling ng mga bata, matitino, now they are suffering because of what their fathers did o iyong mga uncle nila,” said Panelo in an interview with Karen Davila on ANC, the cable news channel of ABS-CBN.
“Alam mo alam na nila (Lopezes) na mali iyong ginawa nila and yet did they did not do anything to appease the person na naging biktima ng kanilang injustice and fraud – wala! Iyon ang tinatawag ni Presidente, hubris di ba,” he added.
Since July 2016, Duterte has railed against ABS-CBN for not only failing to air his campaign commercial just days before election day but also failing to reimburse his payment.
“Mabuti nga nakita ko si Carlo Katigbak kanina, meron siyang statement. Parang sabi niya nagkakamali din kami, buti pa itong batang ito, marunong umamin ng pagkakamali and we will right the wrongs, not your uncle or not your father or not those who are running or who were running ABS-CBN, mabuti pa ang mga bata, may pag-asa pa ang ABS-CBN because of them,” said Panelo.
In a televised message on February 20 , Katigbak said: “Ginagalang namin ang Pangulo. Kinikilala namin ang otoridad ng Kongreso, ng Senado at ang Kapangyarihan ng batas. Higit sa lahat, nirerespeto po namin ang saloobin ng bawat Pilipino,” said Katigbak.
““Kami po ay hindi perpekto. Nagkakamali din po handa po naming itama ang anumang pagkukulang para sa lalo pang ikabubuti ng aming serbsiyo sa Pilipino,” he added.
