Philippine grocery giant Puregold Price Club Inc.is experiencing a boom in sales as panic-stricken buyers load up under President Rodrigo Duterte’s total lockdown in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
A Babbler revealed that the Lucio Co-owned store has seen sales soar by 50 percent to 100 percent since Duterte placed, initially, the capital under community quarantine which included restrictions travel in and out of Metro.
Puregold and S&R stores (386 nationwide as of September 2019) have remained open at limited operating hours even after Duterte levelled up the quarantine to a total lockdown in all of Luzon.
The Babbler said Co has given a 50 percent bonus to his sales and office staff who work during the lockdown (ferried through the company’s shuttle buses), including baggers, security, cashiers, and janitors.
Even before the virus became a pandemic, analysts expected Puregold among the few, blue chip firms to weather the crisis.
