Bilyonaryo Manny V. Pangilinan was quick to thank President Rodrigo Duterte for apologizing to him and the Salim-Metro Pacific Group and promising be to “nice” to them.

“I would like to thank the President for his remarks tonight, most especially for his sincerity and kindness,” said Pangilinan on Twitter just minutes after Duterte ended his midnight briefing.

“I wish to assure him that our Group is fully committed to being a partner of Govt in addressing the heartbreaking moments of Covid 19 on our people, in building a better tomorrow for them. We are, and have always been here, for the country,” he added.

Duterte said sorry to Pangilinan and the Ayalas, owner of Manila Water Co. “I apologize for the hurting words. If you can find in your heart to forgive me. Words were, well, mainly mine. But if you just can forget it for the moment, I’d like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping us provide the necessities of the moment. I can promise you that I’ll be nice and if you want to see me, we can talk,” Duterte said.

Duterte had insulted and cursed Pangilinan and threatened to revoke the concession agreement of Salim-Metro Pacific’s Maynilad Water Services Inc. in Metro Manila. Salim-Metro for trying to collect P6.7 billion in damages from the government. Salim-Metro Pacific waived the compensation awarded by a Singapore court for the government’s refusal to increase water rates “under duress” during a congressional hearing.
