Legal expert favors ABS-CBN renewal but points out it is not the only source of credible news

San Beda Law Graduate School Dean Fr. Ranhilio Aquino has weighed in on the issue involving ABS-CBN’s franchise.

San Beda Law Graduate School Dean Fr. Ranhilio Aquino has weighed in on the issue involving ABS-CBN’s franchise.

Aquino, a known Constitutionalist, said while he was in favor of the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN, he pointed out that it was unfair to characterize the Lopez-led network as the only trusted source of news and information.

ABS-CBN said that with the cessation of its broadcast operations, Filipinos lost their source of news and entertainment at a time when “people need crucial and timely information”.

“I am all for granting ABS-CBN a franchise. That is for Congress to do. But let not the network hold itself out to the public as the only credible source of information. And to label all others as ‘mouthpieces’ of the Administration is unpardonable conceit,” said Aquino.
