While the COVID pandemic has been a bane to all business owners, but this should not be an excuse to abuse their employees just to save some money.
Take the case of this penny-pinching winger (PW) of a stock brokerage firm who used the coronavirus to shortchange his loyal employees.
Following the enforcement of an enhanced community quarantine, most of the brokerage firm’s staff were told to work from home.
For those who can’t work from home (probably because their work could only be done in the office), PW imposed the “no work, no pay” policy.
Some employees wanted to go to the office but all public transportation has been banned during the lockdown.
For those who could perform their jobs out of the office, PW insisted on paying only three days for their week’s work. PW reasoned that since his employees would save money and effort by not going to the office, the brokerage should pay them less.
Our Babbler said one of the firm’s top people, who has a soft heart for the working class, endured a lot of stress just to contest this unjust policy with management but to no avail.
